What an amazing journey it’s been. We started with a dream. We wanted to celebrate two things that we really love – cooking and reading. Wouldn’t it be fun, we thought, to cook a meal inspired by a book … and then invite the author of that book over to enjoy our feast and talk about their creative journey and inspirations. We had no money. We had no time. We had no idea. And it's been a blast!

Anne and Graeme's hot tips

For dessert, Graeme and Anne suggested a much-loved cake recipe which comes from another favourite cookbook, A Kitchen in Burgundy by Anne Willan. Gooseberries are thin on the ground in Sydney, so we used raspberries instead, and it it was delicious. We ate every last scrap - yum yum!

Sarah's review
What’s not to like? Two Steps Forward is a light-hearted, romantic romp across the world-heritage-listed Camino; a pilgrim’s path that crosses France and Spain. The characters do all the hard work: the walking (a mere 2,000 kilometres), the socialising (200,000 pilgrims attempt the trail each year), and the soul-searching (who doesn’t have problems); while you sit back and enjoy the journey.

Kate's review
A charming romantic comedy set on the Camino Trail, Two Steps Forward is told in alternating chapters between the voices of Martin, an engineer from Yorkshire, and Zoe, an artist from California. Both are struggling with hurt and bereavement in their lives. Graeme Simsion writes in the voice of mechanically-minded Martin, and Anne Buist writes from the point-of-view of zany Zoe.

Portrait of a recipe
Out of the 200 recipes in Anne Buist's and Graeme Simsion's favourite cookbook, Bistro Cooking by Patricia Wells, 'Bouillabaisse de Poulet Chez Tante Paulette' became a favourite, so we decided to re-create it for them, making just a few subtle changes to the recipe, for ease of cooking and a richer taste.
